CO2 Laser Beam Expander is an optical system composed of two or more components that can change the size and divergence characteristics of a beam of light. The function of a CO2 laser beam expander is to first expand the beam and then focus it, resulting in a smaller focal point.

It can improve the collimation characteristics of the beam and can also be used to reduce the diameter of the beam in acousto-optic or electro-optic modulators. By combining spatial filters and beam expanders, the energy distribution of asymmetric light spots can be made more symmetrical and uniform.

CO2 Laser Beam Expander Application
Laser beam expander is a defocused system that ensures parallel collimated transmission of laser after passing through the expander. It is widely used in laser systems for precision cutting, marking, drilling, and finishing. The beam expander is configured based on the spot size of the optical system and the galvanometer system, combined with the incident aperture of the laser source to calculate the matching of the beam expansion factor. After the laser beam is expanded, its beam diameter and beam parallelism quality can be changed to enlarge the beam diameter and obtain a smaller and finer focused spot.

The design and assembly of the beam expander have precise parameter requirements for the concentricity of the optical axis of the expander lens and the concentricity between the mirror seat and the mirror group. Eccentricity can cause the beam of the expander lens to shift, become non parallel, tilt, affect the transmission of the beam, and cause cutting phenomena, which in turn affect the focal length and the size and quality of the focused spot of the focusing system.
